“I Don’t Pay Much Attention to the World” Monday August 15, 2016

Apparently there are big events that happen everyday around the world. I don’t care. I don’t listen to the radio. I don’t watch live television. I certainly don’t read the news. Most of my information comes second-hand from other people talking about it.

Some people look at me like that’s a shocking thing. But the events that are happening in the middle east or wherever don’t make a difference in my life. In fact, China could be completely wiped out and I probably wouldn’t notice until some Chinese product I like stopped becoming available.

16704973I’m sure you’re questioning my ability to be a productive member of society, but the fact is that I’m much happier not knowing that there were shootings two blocks from my place. Or reading that a bunch of refugees drowned trying to escape a terrible place to live.

That stuff is depressing and the honest thing is, there’s nothing I can do about it. My posting a picture on Facebook about how much I care or how upset I am about the latest tragedy isn’t going to prevent the next tragedy.

So, yeah. I don’t know my congressperson, and I’m not even 100% sure who the vice president is. But I’m a good person. I’m just not going to obsess about things that have no direct impact on my life.
